UPSC Combined Defence Services  (CDS) Exam Syllabus :-

UPSC Combined Defence Services exam consists of three subjects English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. Each paper has duration of 2 hours and carries 100 marks. The questions will be multiple choice objective types for which qualifying scores are fixed by the commission.
The CDS Examination syllabus covers all important aspects related to the subject and also it tests the aptitude of the applicants as such. So it is necessary to study appropriately about each subject in order to pass this exam. Elementary Mathematics paper will pertain to the standards of Matriculation while for other subjects; it will be up to the standards of Graduation from an Indian University. Course wise detailed syllabus for UPSC CDS Exam:

1. English:
This paper is intended to judge the skills of candidates in understanding General English and apt use of vocabulary. The topics covered under this text are Tenses, synonyms, Antonyms, Articles, Idioms and phrases, Vocabulary, Spelling checking and correction, Finding errors, Sentence improvement, one word substitution, sentence improvement, etc.

2. General Knowledge:
Covering the subjects like Science, History, Geography, and Indian Constitution, this paper will test the general awareness of aspirants with respect to current affairs taken place recently at state, national and global levels; financial conditions, developments, bank policies and financial surveys; recent advancements in science & technology; Awards and prizes; Books and authors; as well as sports. No special study has to be made for preparing these subjects.

3. Mathematics:
This paper requires elementary knowledge of mathematics and is relatively simple for the candidates. It covers all branches of mathematics like:-
Arithmetic:Natural numbers, fundamental operations, unitary method, simple and compound interest, elementary number theory with algorithm, factorization, HCF, LCM, Multiples and factors.
Algebra:simple factors, basic operations, Polynomials, remainder theorem, quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, linear equations, law of indices, and rational expressions.
Geometry:Lines and Angles, properties of angles; plane and plane figures; Similar triangles, medians and altitudes; loci; properties of parallelograms, squares, circles, and rectangle.
Trigonometry:trigonometric tables, identities along with Sine X, Cos X, Tangent.
Mensuration:Area of rectangles, square, triangle, circle, parallelogram; and volume of cuboids, circular cones, cylinders, and spheres.
Statistics:collection of data, graphical representation, histograms, pie charts, and bar charts.
